Urban space is the theatre of conflict where, paradoxically, the human have to face with a process of adaptation: a struggle for survival made of oppressed and oppressors. In this scenario, where class affiliation is the discriminating, Esseri Umani wants to give voice to submerged Milan, to those realities hidden and crushed by the widespread idea of the ‘progress city’. A journey, at times surreal, that wants to give visibility and dignity to those who are considered ”the last”.
MARIASOLE CAIO (Milan, 1997) graduated in New Technologies of Art at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 with an experimental research thesis on the cinema of reality, accompanied by the short film Sulla Strada shot entirely in a working-class street in his native district. In the same year, with the video Human Attitude she participated in the exhibition SGUARDI/BLIKE II at Lorenzelli Arte in Milan, at the Westend Galerie in Frankfurt and at Palazzo Parasi in Cannobio. In March 2024, she graduated from the L. Visconti Civic School of Cinema in the Documentary course.
MARCO OCCHIONERO (Milan, 1995) is a graduate student in Film History and Criticism at the University of Milan. He tried his hand at multimedia for the first time during a study experience in Lodz, Poland, when he realised the interactive podcast My Dear with colleagues. During this project, he became familiar with writing, audio direction, sound editing and the actors’ acting. In March 2024, he graduated from the L. Visconti Civic Film School in the Documentary course.
CAMILLA PARODI (Bologna, 1999) graduated in History and Anthropology at UNIMORE with a thesis on the cultural identity of local markets accompanied by the short film Sull’importanza del suono. In 2022 he took part in a participatory video course with the production company Zalab. He attended several photography courses and in 2024 she held an exhibition at Area 15 in Bologna in which he exhibited her interactive installation Quando mi domando chi sei. In March 2024, she graduated from the L. Visconti in the Documentary course.
SIMONE PONTINI (Monza, 1995) trained as a videomaker, he is the author of several documentaries including A Pandemic Rave (2020). In March 2024 he graduated from the L. Visconti Civic School of Cinema in the Documentary course.
Mariasole, Marco, Camilla and Simone met while attending the Evening Documentary Course at the L. Visconti Civic Film School in Milan from 2022 to 2024. Esseri Urbani is their graduation project.
